I have been writing and illustrating children’s stories for a number of years and published the first of my picture book series ‘The Rhymers’ in 2015. These rhyming early learning alphabet character books now have over 60 titles.
Writing, illustrating and coming up with new ideas for The Rhymers is great fun. The books are so cheerful and colourful which adds to the pleasure of work. A recent addition to The Rhymers portfolio are the gorgeous personalised birthday books and the first person they wanted to say “Happy Birthday” to was me!
I am available for author visits into nurseries and schools across each of the Key Stages. I offer sessions within small groups, whole classes or assemblies, including age appropriate discussions of the morals my stories highlight. I can tailor any session to suit the needs of the pupils.
Key Stage 1 – Sessions can focus on enjoyment of story, listening skills, story prediction, rhyme, interactive games and art skills.
Key Stage 2 – Sessions can develop children’s creative writing skills through rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, plot development and understanding how to write for target audiences, as well as the blending of illustration with the written word.
Key Stages 3 & 4 – As well as further developing the skills of writing for target audiences, sessions can offer insights into the business of self-publishing, enthusing students in the possibilities of getting their creative ideas out to a wider audience. Please also note my written work with the Catching Lives homeless charity which can inspire many students.
Confidence For Life
I have been developing a seven-book Confident Rhymers series to deliver ‘Confidence For Life’ courses to Key Stage One children.
I am an experienced tutor in Maths and English, offering tuition across primary ages through to GCSE students, including preparation for the Kent test.
I offer specialist tutoring on the art of book publication and offer a twelve week programme turning your child’s initial ideas into their own published book!
I also specialise in confidence building and have a book series that I have written for younger children to help them with their confidence issues.
I am based near Canterbury, in Kent, England.
I set aside one day each week to work at ‘Catching Lives’, a homeless charity in Canterbury. Since 2015 I have been working on a literacy project with clients, helping them write and illustrate their own story books, develop their literacy skills and build self-esteem. This first book, ‘Harbledown Hope: a journey through homelessness‘ was launched in October 2017. All proceeds from sales go to Catching Lives.
I give talks to adults, sharing my expertise as an author, illustrator and designer. My talks demystify the self-publishing process, encouraging anyone with “a book in them” to give it a go.
I can run creative writing workshops with schools, colleges, universities, adult education and other settings.
I provide a consultancy service for anyone wanting assistance with the independent publishing process and setting up an author website. I am privileged to have assisted many authors realise their dream of seeing their book in print.
